New electricity market plans explained

PESHAWAR: The Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) arranged a stakeholder workshop on Tuesday to brief participants on the Competitive Trading Bilateral Contracts Market (CTBCM) and the Wheeling Auctions Framework.

A communication said the session was part of ISMO’s ongoing nationwide engagement to build awareness and readiness for Pakistan’s transition to a competitive electricity market.Addressing the workshop, ISMO’s Chief Executive Officer stated that NEPRA’s approval of the Final Test Run Report and the Market Commercial Code has paved the way for full-scale market operations.

He reaffirmed ISMO’s commitment to leading the power sector’s transformation with transparency, efficiency, and professionalism, in line with international best practices.The ISMO officials briefed participants on CTBCM implementation, including market registration, contract management, settlement mechanisms, and supplier rule amendments.The upcoming wheeling auctions for 800 MW of demand were also highlighted as a key opportunity for industrial and bulk consumers to directly procure electricity at competitive rates.
