LAHORE:The averageAir Quality Index(AQI) of the provincial metropolis was recorded as 197, which came in the category of unhealthy here on Tuesday.Data collected from IQAir revealed that the PM2.5 concentration was 24.3 times the WHO annual PM2.5 guideline value.
Met officials said continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country while a shallow trough of westerly wave was likely to approach north-western parts on today (evening). They predicted that cold and dry weather was expected over most parts of the country while very cold in hilly areas during morning/night hours. Smog (while fog in patches during night/morning) was likely to persist over plain areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Punjab Senior Minister MarriyumAurengzeb said reduction in AQI was the result of CM’s multi-sectoral action plan and modern monitoring system. She said reduction in air pollution occurred due to a scientifically based policy and zero tolerance approach.
