LAHORE:An awareness seminar on HIV/AIDS was organised by the Department of Community Medicine at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) in connection with ‘World AIDS Day’. The experts emphasised the importance of preventive measures in controlling AIDS.

The seminar focused on promoting factual knowledge, accurate information and social awareness regarding the disease. FJMU VC Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, Administrator, Punjab Human Organ Transplant, Prof. Aamer Zaman Khan,Dr Abdul Majid from the Royal Australasian College of Family Medicine, Dr Qurat-ul-Ain from Punjab AIDS Control Programme, Dr Saima Abbas and Dr Fizza Gilani attended the seminar.

FJMU VC Prof Khalid Masood Gondal highlighted the importance of timely diagnosis, safe practices, and dispelling misconceptions about the disease. He stressed that breaking the ‘silence’ surrounding HIV is essential to ensure timely treatment and adequate social support for patients. Warning against quack practitioners, he stated that ignorance and substandard treatment often worsen the illness.
