A madrasa student was allegedly kidnapped by dacoits from the Kutcha area near the Ghaghar Phatak area in Karachi, prompting the seminary administration to file a formal complaint with the office of the District Malir SSP.

According to the application submitted by Mufti Syed Abdul Haq Shah, student Saleem Khan had taken leave on November 20 to visit his family in his native village.

On November 25 the madrasa received a call from Khan through an unknown WhatsApp number, in which he claimed he had been abducted by Kutcha dacoits and was being tortured.

On December 3 the abductors sent a photograph through WhatsApp showing Khan with handcuffs on. The kidnappers have allegedly demanded Rs500,000 for his safe release. The madrasa administration has appealed to local and provincial law-enforcement agencies to take immediate action for the student’s recovery.

According to the complaint, several members of the abducted student’s family currently reside abroad, particularly in Dubai, making it difficult for relatives to coordinate immediate assistance in Pakistan.

The administration has urged the public to share any information related to the incident with the nearest police station or the Malir SSP’s office. Efforts to contact the Malir police are still under way.

The authorities are yet to issue any official statement confirming an arrest or the student’s recovery. Meanwhile, social media pages and madrasa representatives have been circulating evidence, and appealing for public help.

The madrasa management has turned to both mainstream and social media, requesting people to come forward with any information that could assist the investigators. The madrasa administration has appealed for public cooperation to ensure the safe recovery of the student.

On the other hand, police said they are actively working on the suspected kidnapping case, adding that it has not yet been determined from which exact location the student was abducted.

They said they are reviewing mobile phone locations and other available evidence. The statements of eyewitnesses and people close to the victim are being recorded to complete the legal procedure.
