Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Thursday imposed a ban on rickshaws on 26 roads of the city. The ban will remain in place until December 17. Official said the decision has been taken to ensure a smooth traffic flow and prevent accidents. Moreover, a list of 20 highways, including six new highways, has been issued.
Naqvi has banned the movement of rickshaws on 26 highways under Section 144. Six more highways have been added to the 20 highways already included in the ban. The highways that have been added include Sharea Faisal from Malir Halt to Quaidabad and the National Highway via Quaidabad to Ghaghar Phatak, KPT Post Office on Masan Road to Shireen Jinnah Colony, Khoja Jamat Khana on Nawab Mohabbat Khan Ji Road to Le Market, Board Office on Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road to Naumaish, SM Taufiq Road-Jahangir Road via Liaquatabad No. 10 to Naumaish, and Sohrab Goth to Toll Plaza on M-9 Motorway.
The earlier routes include Sharea Faisal from Avari Light Signal to Madam Apartment, II Chandrigarh Road from Tower to Shaheen Complex, Sharea Quaideen from Naumaish to Sharea Faisal (Nursery), Sher Shah Suri Road from Matriculation Board Office to Nagan Chowrangi, Shaheed Millat Road from Jail Chowrangi to Shaheed Millat Expressway, Abdullah Haroon Road to Dou Talwar from Hashoo Center (Mobile Market) via Hoshang, Khayaban-e-Iqbal, Dou Talwar Sharea Firdausi to Mazar Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Stadium Road from Millennium Mall to New Town Police Station, Sir Shah Suleman Road from Sir Habib Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road to Hassan Square to Karsaz, Rashid Minhas Road from Drig Road to Sohrab Goth, Mauripur Road from Gulbai to ICI Bridge, Sharea Pakistan from Sohrab Goth to Liaquatabad No 10, Hub River Road from Paracha Chowk to Saeedabad (Police Training Center), Quaidabad to Landhi 89 To, University Road - Safoora Chowrangi to Jail Chowrangi, Korangi Road from FTC to Qayyumabad, Korangi Road - Qayyumabad to Korangi Crossing, Orangi Road - Raees Amrohi Colony to Board Office
The ban has been declared effective from the Super Highway to Malir Halt (Jinnah Avenue) via Check Post No 5 Malir Cantt to Tanki Chowk and from Surjani (Abdullah Chowk) to Sohrab Goth via Nagan Chowrangi from October 18 to December 17. According to the notification, action will be taken against the violators. The SHOs have been directed to register cases under Section 188 of the CrPC.
