LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday approved the launch of “Chief Minister Punjab Honorarium Card for Imam Masjid Sahib”.
The approval was granted during a meeting chaired by her in which several key decisions were taken and a detailed briefing was presented. The meeting decided that the issuance process of honorarium cards must be completed by February 2026. Maryam directed that honorarium payments to Imams be commenced from January 1, with the first payments being issued via pay orders. Authorities briefed the chief minister that from February 1 onwards, all payments will be made exclusively through the Honorarium Card. Officials briefed the meeting that 62,994 registration forms had so far been received from Imams across Punjab and their verification process was underway. They said any Imam found involved in activities against national interests or implicated in moral or financial crimes would have their honorarium immediately suspended.
The CM directed that registration of Imams should continue uninterrupted. She directed assistant commissioners across the province to hold monthly meetings with Imams. The meeting also approved establishment of Mosque Management Committees and Tehsil Management Committees in the province. Maryam directed continuation of combing operations in sensitive areas. She directed introducing strict legislation against damage to Safe City cameras and government property.
She directed authorities to take necessary measures for digital monitoring of individuals listed under the Fourth Schedule and continue operations against illegally residing Afghan nationals.
In her special message on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Maryam said that “Persons of determination are our heroes and will always remain so”. She said these individuals were not a burden but the pride of Punjab, a blessing and honour. She said that in Punjab, persons with disabilities were now claiming their rights with dignity rather than seeking sympathy.
