PESHAWAR: Adviser to the KP Chief Minister on Finance Muzzammil Aslam has said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has spent more resources on security and policing than any other province in Pakistan, and that these expenditures have been financed largely from the province’s own limited resources.

He said the police budget in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accounts for 8.7 percent of the total provincial budget, compared to 3.9 percent in Punjab. According to him, this demonstrates that the provincial government has made security a top priority.

Speaking to this correspondent, Muzzammil Aslam termed misleading the claim made by a federal representative that the federal government had provided Rs16 billion to the province for police and security-related development projects. The claim had earlier been made by the Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who stated that the federal government had provided Rs16 billion for the construction of police lines, police stations and checkpoints in the merged districts.

The finance adviser said the impression being created by certain federal circles regarding the provision of Rs16 billion was inaccurate.
