The world, once hailed as a free global village, now stands at a crossroads. Every nation is racing to decouple its economy and pursue self-reliance – a trend led by the US. The trade war initiated by President Trump has unleashed immeasurable harm on the global economy, particularly for developing nations. The world now seems more fractured, fragile and fragmented in terms of trade.

Countries are increasingly protecting their domestic industries while discouraging imports. This trend should be viewed as alarming, for it may push the world towards an even more serious crisis of economic isolation.
