Islamabad : Assistant Sub-Inspector Ali Akbar of the Islamabad Police was stabbed to death in broad daylight on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred on the main road near ‘Sabzi Mandi’ as the ASI was walking toward his duty point.
According to the police reports, an unidentified pedestrian assailant, who was following the ASI suddenly attacked the officer with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries, and then fled the scene. ASI Ali was immediately shifted to the PIMS but succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding.
The Sabzi Mandi Police Station has registered a case and initiated an investigation. The police stated that top authorities are taking the incident seriously and have instructed the concerned police to treat locating the attacker as a challenge.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the tragic assassination of ASI Ali Akbar. Taking serious notice of the incident, he paid tribute to the martyred officer and expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathy to his grieving family, affirming, “We stand with the grieving family of the martyred ASI Ali Akbar.”
The Interior Minister has ordered the police authorities to hunt down the assailant without delay and directed the IGP Islamabad to submit a comprehensive report on the tragic incident. He also ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect involved in the killing.
Several specialised teams, comprising investigation experts and personnel from the Homicide Department have been constituted.
The funeral prayer for the martyred officer was held at the Police Line Headquarters.
Naqvi, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Chief Commissioner, and the top police officers including IGP, DIG (Operations), SSPs, SPs, DSPs, SHOs, and others attended the prayer.
