Islamabad:The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan has decided to take strict regulatory action against the private institutions including private hospitals, which are not paying remuneration/stipend to their post-graduate trainees as per decision of the federal and provincial governments’ rules at par with grade 17.

There have been reports that some of the private institutions including private hospitals are not complying with regulations mandating stipend payments to all postgraduate and diploma trainees. The Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination in its meeting held on August 29 this year has asked the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to take strict action including suspension of registrations against non-compliant institutions while asked the CPSP and PMDC to jointly monitor compliance.

Senior Vice President Professor Dr. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi, when contacted by ‘The News’, said the CPSP had sent reminders to all institutions and private hospitals asking them to pay stipend to all FCPS and MCPS trainees as per the government rules. We have already informed the institutions that the non-compliance may result in the suspension of the accreditation status of the institute, he said.

He added the CPSP is very much concerned about the well-being of trainees and payment of stipend. It has already been made clear to all institutions that the honorary training and the induction on the sponsorship letter is not allowed, he added.

It is worth mentioning here that well over 40,000 trainees are serving in as many as 473 postgraduate medical and dental training institutions and degree awarding institutes in both the public and private sectors.
