LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has directed that all police personnel assigned to the security of VVIPs, VIPs and other high-profile individuals undergo immediate psychological testing.
Sources in the Punjab government said the decision was prompted by recent security incidents and the heightened threat of terrorism. The CTD has issued letters to all Regional Police Officers (RPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs) and deputy commissioners across the province.
A copy of the letter, seen by the reporter, stated that the risks of attacks on VVIPs and key installations by anti-national elements cannot be ignored. Police officers assigned to such duties must be mentally fit, alert and possess strong nerves. Psychological assessments are therefore necessary to ensure personnel can perform their duties with courage and composure during emergencies.
The CTD officials have urged provincial authorities to immediately formulate a comprehensive plan for conducting these psychological tests. The results will also assist in evaluating police performance and enhancing operational effectiveness.
