Dr Masood Akhtar has been appointed as vice chancellor of the University of Baltistan, Skardu, for a four-year tenure.
According to sources, the university’s Senate had forwarded three names to the Presidency for final approval. The list placed Dr Sajid Rasheed at the top, followed by Dr Masood Akhtar and Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan.
The Search Committee had initially shortlisted five candidates, with Dr Muhammad Ali Shah and Dr Tahir Khalili ranked highest. However, when the Senate convened, both candidates withdrew -- Dr Shah after being appointed vice chancellor of the University of the Punjab and Dr Tahir Khalili following his appointment as vice chancellor of Khushal Khan Khattak University. As a result, the ranking was revised and the names of Dr Sajid Rasheed, Dr Masood Akhtar, and Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan were formally approved.
Speaking to Daily Jang, Dr Masood Akhtar said he would arrive in Skardu on Thursday. He added that he had already assumed charge of his office at the university’s Islamabad campus on Wednesday.
