Turkish CG lauds Hassanally Effendi’s role in strengthening Sindh-Turkiye relations

A grand reception in honour of Turkish Consul General Cemal Sangu was organised under the auspices of the Arts Council Karachi on Tuesday.

The event was attended by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Women’s Wing Chairperson and MPA Faryal Talpur, Sindh Minister for Culture Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, PPP Karachi Division President and Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, senior PPP leader Nisar Khuhro, veteran actor Manzoor Saeed, renowned playwright Noor-ul-Huda Shah, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, Qasim Soomro, consuls general of various countries, and other distinguished personalities.

Speaking on the occasion, Faryal Talpur highlighted Pakistan’s historical ties with Turkiye, recalling that her great-grandfather Hassanally Effendi was the first consul general of Turkiye in Sindh. She noted that in 1885, he laid the foundation of Sindh Madrasa-tul-Islam, which still stands as a historical institution in modern Karachi. She also conveyed her best wishes to Cemal Sangu.

Consul General Cemal Sangu praised Hassanally Effendi’s pivotal role in promoting relations between Sindh and Turkiye. He expressed gratitude to Faryal Talpur and President Asif Ali Zardari for preserving the historical bond between Turkiye and Pakistan, and appreciated their efforts in strengthening bilateral ties.

At the end of the ceremony, Faryal Talpur presented Consul General Cemal Sangu with Mirza Qalich Baig’s book “Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi” along with a bouquet. Earlier, the host of the event and president of the Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, warmly welcomed the guests alongside members of the governing body. He underscored the importance of the historical Pakistan-Turkiye relationship, emphasizing the deep cultural ties, cooperation, and shared heritage between the two nations.
