Karachi Additional Inspector General of Police (additional IGP) Javed Alam Odho on Wednesday chaired a meeting at the Karachi Police Office to review the crime situation in Karachi.
The admin DIG, Karachi Range DIGs, CIA DIG, investigation DIG, SSPs and investigation officers participated in the meeting.
Officials said the zonal DIGs briefed the meeting on the crime rate, police measures, progress in cases and arrests of absconding suspects.
A detailed report on important cases, especially those pertaining to extortion and serious crimes, was also presented in the meeting.
Additional IGP Odho issued instructions to make prosecution of cases, combing, snap checking and search operations more effective, and said zero tolerance policy should be strictly followed against elements involved in extortion.
He also issued instructions for a foolproof security plan for the National Games 2025, special arrangements at the residences of the players, grounds and traffic routes leading to them.
The Karachi police chief said all resources should be utilised to protect the lives and property of citizens and security of sensitive places should be tightened.
The meeting was told that the Karachi Range performed brilliantly in the Sindh Police Games 2025 and won the general trophy with 28 gold, 19 silver and 18 bronze medals. It achieved prominent positions in hockey, volleyball, football, boxing, bodybuilding, athletics, shooting and cricket, showing excellent performance in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Pakistan One-Day Cricket Team Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi also made a special visit to the Karachi Police Office on Wednesday. The additional IGP and Sports Board chairman organised a ceremony in honour of the police sports players.
Additional IGP Odho congratulated the players and said sports were indispensable for the morale of the force and a healthy environment. He added that the Karachi Range police would also participate in the National Games with full force.
The Karachi police chief awarded the players with certificates of appreciation and gifts and wished them good performance in the future. The traffic DIG also appreciated the hard work and discipline of the players.
Praising the performance of police in sports, Afridi announced cash prizes for the players of Karachi Range and professional boxer Shaheer Afridi.
