In the absence of a regular chairperson, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) administration has reinitiated the process for appointing a regular executive director (ED), a key position that serves as the principal accounting officer of a more than Rs100 billion annual budget, head of the HEC Secretariat and secretary to the HEC Commission.

The development comes at a time when the process for appointing chairperson to the HEC has already been initiated, with advertisements issued to invite applications from suitable candidates. The advertisement for the post of executive director has been challenged in various courts, raising questions about the timing and transparency of the process.

The appointment of the executive director holds critical importance for the functioning of the commission, as the position directly oversees financial management, administration, and implementation of the HEC’s policies and programsmes.
