In compliance with the ad-interim order passed by a civil judge of Islamabad (West), Prof Dr Zia Ul-Qayyum has formally assumed charge as executive director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
According to an official office order issued by the HEC, the appointment follows the ad-interim court directive issued on June 28, 2025, and extended on July 31 in the civil suit titled “Zia Ul-Qayyum versus HEC”.
Prof Zia Ul-Qayyum is a seasoned academic and administrator with extensive experience in higher education leadership. His assumption of charge is expected to bring continuity and direction to the executive functioning of the Higher Education Commission.
He also tried to assume the charge a few days earlier, but the HEC management did not allow him to enter the HEC premises. He then filed a contempt petition in the court. The office order has been circulated to all relevant federal and provincial stakeholders, including ministries, secretariats, universities, and educational boards.
