ALI AMMAR

Not every career follows a straight path. Sometimes interests shift, opportunities arise and suddenly you find yourself somewhere unexpected. For Ali Ammar, that turn came from coding to cameras. With a software engineering background, he could have stayed behind a desk, but acting pulled him in. Since his debut in ‘Ehd-e-Wafa’, he’s taken on a variety of roles, from the intense dramas ‘Wehshi’ and ‘Jhok Sarkar’ to his breakout performance as Moon in ‘Tan Man Neelo Neel’. He’s currently on the set of Geo TV’s ‘Angan’ and has a few more projects lined up. This week, Ali shares his likes and dislikes with our readers…

How did you get into acting?

It started as a childhood thing, just playing around and mimicking people. But once I stepped onto a real set, it clicked. I realised this wasn’t just fun, it was something I wanted to chase seriously.

Who helped you get into the industry?

Honestly, no one delivered me a golden ticket. I just showed up, did auditions and kept at it. It was about being persistent.

What is your most memorable drama series to date?

‘Tan Man Neelo Neel’ for sure. The role was heavy, dealing with serious trauma and it pushed me to explore emotions I hadn’t acted before. It was challenging but worth it.

What’s the biggest thrill about acting?

Versatility. You get to live a bunch of lives in one lifetime. One day you’re a gangster, the next a doctor, the next, someone entirely different. It’s the ultimate window into human nature.

What do you usually wear in daily life?

Simple jeans and a classic tee. Comfort first.

What is your favourite thing in your closet right now?

Fragrances. The right scent makes the whole outfit feel complete, even if it’s casual.

What is your most valuable possession?

My values. They keep me grounded no matter how chaotic things get around me.

What is the best purchase you’ve ever made?

Buying my first car with my own money. That moment of realising “I did this” was unforgettable.

What’s your annoying habit?

I’m terrible at keeping up digitally. Messages, calls, I often respond late. Never personal, but it happens.

What is your biggest fear?

Losing the people I love. Everything else can be replaced, but family and real friends aren’t replaceable.

What bores you the most?

Endless conversations about stuff I don’t care about. I can’t fake interest for long.

You are crazy about…

Travel. I want to see different parts of the world and absorb everything, culture, food, people, everything.

What is your favourite hangout spot?

Gym or just hanging out with friends. That’s my reset button.

What are your healthy habits?

Sugar-free life. Big difference for energy and focus.

Song that always gets you on the dance floor?

Any heavy beat that hits right. Bass on point, I’m on the floor.

What’s the last thing you bought?

My new iPhone. It’s my work tool and entertainment hub all at once.

You get super uncomfortable with…

Stagnation. No growth or direction makes me restless.

First pay cheque?

50k. I had a mental wishlist bigger than the cash in hand. Spent it before it even arrived.

Your favourite co-actor?

Hina Afridi. Chemistry on screen and off makes everything flow smoother.

You are extremely possessive about…

Personal space and peace of mind. It takes effort to protect and I don’t compromise easily.

You don’t like people who are...

I don’t like people who have ‘main character syndrome’. When someone’s ego blocks them from seeing beyond themselves, it’s exhausting.

One thing you like best about yourself?

I don’t quit. If I decide on something, I see it through, no matter what.

First thing you do in the morning?

Check my phone, then plan the day, fitness, work, everything.

How do you unwind after a long day?

Music. Shut out the world and just let it play.

When you’re not shooting, what do you do?

Maximum chill. Netflix, rest or just some me-time.

If you had access to a time machine which era, would you revisit?

Back to university days. Pure vibes, zero responsibility, all fun.

Most important relationship lesson learned?

Go with the flow, be genuine and don’t overthink the small stuff. Keep it real.

What are you currently working on?

‘Angan’. I play Osama, a layered character and it’s been a lot of fun figuring him out scene by scene.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Being recognised as a reputed actor.
