Nine of a family injured as hi-roof van catches fire

At least nine members of a family were injured after a moving hi-roof van caught fire near the Khudadad Colony signal on Saturday. Brigade SHO Faisal Gul said the family was returning home from a wedding in the early hours when a fire erupted suddenly and engulfed the vehicle.

Two children, four women and three men suffered burn injuries as a result. Rescue teams rushed the injured to the Burns Ward of Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

Chhipa welfare officials identified the injured as Rafiq Sher, 60, Wakeela Rafiq, 40, Aakif Rafiq, 28, Uzair Ali, 24, Salman Uzair, 15, Rubina Imran, 40, Dua Imran, 18, Areeba Imran, 18, and Hadi Adil, 5.

Police said that the victims are residents of Khudadad Colony. Initial investigations suggest that the fire had erupted due to a short circuit. Police are conducting further inquiry. The condition of the injured is reported to be out of danger.
