LAHORE: The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) has formally committed to establishing the Pakistan National Chapter of the Apparel and Textile Transformation Initiative (ATTI), a global manufacturer-led platform jointly established by the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF).
With this commitment, Pakistan becomes the third country to join ATTI, following Bangladesh and Turkiye, reinforcing its role in promoting sustainability, decarbonisation and responsible manufacturing within the global apparel and textile industry.
The announcement was made during London Climate Action Week 2026, where industry leaders, brands, manufacturers, investors and development partners gathered to discuss climate finance and the sustainable transformation of the apparel sector.
PRGMEA has maintained a longstanding relationship with the International Apparel Federation. In 2019, the association hosted the IAF World Fashion Convention in Lahore, bringing together leaders from across the global apparel industry. Ijaz A. Khokhar, former chairman of PRGMEA, currently serves on the IAF Board, reflecting Pakistan’s continued engagement with the international apparel sector.
Under the collaboration, PRGMEA and ATTI will develop a Pakistan transformation plan focusing on decarbonisation, energy efficiency, water stewardship, climate finance, resource efficiency and sustainable manufacturing practices. The initiative aims to provide practical solutions and technical support to manufacturers, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while enhancing the international competitiveness of Pakistan’s apparel sector.
The announcement was highlighted during a panel discussion titled ‘Financing Transformation in the Global Apparel and Textile Sector’, which featured speakers including Vidya Khan, vice president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA); Fernando de Buenes of Inditex; Mark Newbold of Primark; and Dr Muhammad Ayyaz Uddin, head of the decarbonisation committee at PRGMEA. Representatives from ATTI, British International Investment (BII), brands, manufacturers and financial institutions also participated.
