LAHORE: The second summer meeting at the Lahore Race Club (LRC) produced a day of mixed fortunes as established favourites and surprise long-shots both found the winners’ circle.
Tight finishes, unexpected placings and a handful of fluke entries kept punters and spectators on their toes throughout the card. The opening race went largely as predicted when King Asia justified favouritism to take the win. The race, however, produced two surprises in the placings: Xena finished a strong second and Sosig Go claimed an unexpected third, delighting those who backed the outsiders.
In the second contest, consistent performer Babber Sher surged clear to record a convincing victory. Sher Dil, considered by many a fluke entry, ran a spirited race to finish second, while Lex Luger produced a late charge to secure third and round out a competitive podium.
The third race produced one of the day’s more eye-catching results as long-shot Waqat galloped to an authoritative victory. Golden Heart provided a notable place performance, finishing second, and Murshad completed the podium with a solid third — both outcomes proving surprising to many onlookers.
Perhaps the biggest upset of the meeting came in the fourth race when relative unknown Zohan The Thunder stormed home to claim the win. Moni Ka Rahman finished a surprising second, while Falco, another fluke selection, held on for third, capping a dramatic renewal that saw several outsiders rewarded.
The final race saw favourite Construct Craft live up to expectations with a composed victory. The surprises continued in the placings as Fateh Prince produced a strong run for second and Fakhar-e-Sardar took third, ensuring the meeting closed on another competitive note.
