ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Coordinator and Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, on Monday hailed Pakistan’s role in facilitating the Iran-United States peace agreement, saying the development had enhanced Pakistan’s standing as a global advocate for peace and stability.
“The peace agreement between Iran and the US, announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, had become possible through continuous diplomatic efforts by Pakistan’s leadership,” he said in a statement. “Through the Grace of Allah Almighty, Pakistan has attained an international stature that it had not achieved during the past 78 years,” he said, adding that the country was now being recognised globally as a centre of peace and security.
Ashrafi said the entire Pakistani nation was proud of its leadership, particularly Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, for their efforts in advancing peace. He also acknowledged the role played by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in facilitating the diplomatic process.
He expressed hope that the path of peace would also contribute to a brighter future for the people of Palestinian and Kashmir and help advance their legitimate rights and aspirations. He announced that the PUC had appealed for Friday, June 19, to be observed as a “Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer” across the country and among Pakistani communities worldwide in recognition of the peace agreement and Pakistan’s diplomatic achievements.
Ashrafi prayed for Pakistan’s continued success and for lasting peace and stability around the world. He also thanked Pakistan’s brotherly countries, particularly Saudi Arabia and its leadership Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, as well as Qatar and Türkiye, for their support and contributions towards the efforts for promoting peace.
He further expressed appreciation to the leaderships of Iran and the US for reposing confidence in Pakistan’s mediation efforts. Ashrafi said Pakistan would continue moving forward towards a brighter future and expressed confidence that the pursuit of peace would contribute to stability, justice and the realisation of the rights of oppressed peoples, including Palestinians and Kashmiris.
