Islamabad:The law enforcement agencies of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have finalised and activated comprehensive, multi-tiered security operations to maintain law and order and ensure public safety throughout the holy months of Muharram and Safar.

In capital, the Islamabad Police have deployed a massive force of over 15,000 police and Rangers personnel to safeguard 177 processions and 929 majalis. Executed under the special directions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the security arrangements are being directly supervised by top command, including all deputy inspector generals, senior superintendents of police, and assistant inspector generals, who have been assigned active duties and daily site visits to local Imambargahs.

To complement the ground forces, a centralized control room has been established at Safe City Islamabad, leveraging more than 3,000 surveillance cameras and drones to monitor all gatherings in real time.

Ten newly formed vigilance teams are conducting daily inspections of the deployments, backed by routine search operations across the district. Specialized units, including the Capital Patrol Unit and Quick Response Teams, are on high alert, while more than 500 traffic officers have been stationed to manage traffic flow and dedicated parking zones.

The capital’s strategy also incorporates specialised female security squads for women’s gatherings and relies on seamless inter-departmental coordination across operations, traffic, logistics, the Counter-Terrorism Department, and the Special Branch.

Simultaneously, across the boundary in Rawalpindi, City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani has ordered an equally rigorous district-wide security and traffic sweep, warning that the official code of conduct and standard operating procedures will be strictly enforced without exception.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Police Lines Headquarters with top commanders, sub-divisional officers, and station chiefs, CPO Hamdani directed the utilisation of all available resources to preempt any untoward incidents. The Rawalpindi strategy mandates extensive search operations in every police jurisdiction under the direct supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officers.
