ISLAMABAD: In a landmark development for the revival of Pakistan hockey, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and Pakistan Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO) on Monday entered into a historic partnership under which PARCO will provide Rs100 million over the next two years to support coaching education, coach development and allied hockey activities across the country.
The agreement, regarded as one of the most significant corporate interventions in Pakistan hockey in recent years, was signed in the presence of Secretary IPC Mohyuddin Wani, Secretary Petroleum Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh, PARCO Managing Director Irteza Ali Qureshi, the Chairman PARCO, senior officials of both organizations and members of the Pakistan Under-21 hockey team currently attending a national training and selection camp.
The collaboration is aimed at strengthening the foundations of hockey through a comprehensive coaching development programme, focusing on modern coaching methodologies, education initiatives and the creation of a structured nationwide coaching framework.
The agreement also provides for stipends to coaches participating in the PHF’s coaching education programme, ensuring greater professional support for those involved in nurturing future talent.
Officials described the partnership as a major step towards rebuilding Pakistan’s hockey structure and addressing one of the sport’s most pressing needs, the development of qualified and well-trained coaches capable of producing the next generation of international players.
Speaking on the occasion, participants emphasized that sustainable success in modern hockey depends on strong coaching systems and continuous human resource development. They stressed that investment in coaching excellence would help create a uniform national structure, improve player development pathways and ultimately assist Pakistan in reclaiming its lost glory on the international stage.
