WANA: At least five persons were killed and two others sustained injuries when two rival families traded fire over a long-standing land dispute in the Gul Kach area of Toi Khullah tehsil of Lower South Waziristan district, local and police sources said on Saturday.

The sources said that the dispute between the families of Malik Adam Khan and Gul Shah Khan had persisted for years over the ownership of a piece of land. The situation turned deadly when armed members of both sides confronted each other, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire.

The exchange of fire claimed the lives of three members of Gul Shah Khan’s family. They were identified as Allah Dad, Mustafa and Qari Zaheer Khan. Two members of the rival family, Niamatullah and Sadu Khan, were also killed in the exchange of fire.

Two other persons, Mohammad Alam and Ayub, sustained injuries and were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital Wana, where they received emergency medical treatment. Hospital officials said the injured were in stable condition.

The incident triggered fear and panic among residents, while tensions remained high in the area following the deadly confrontation. Tribal elders and local notables have reportedly stepped in to mediate between the two sides in an effort to prevent further violence and restore calm.

Police and district administration officials reached the area shortly after the incident and launched efforts to maintain law and order.
