DUBAI: Following a report by an international news agency regarding the alleged expulsion of Pakistani citizens from the United Arab Emirates, differing opinions have emerged across social media platforms. However, no official response has yet been issued by the Emirati government.
Meanwhile, some Emirati social media commentators and analysts with close links to government circles have rejected the sectarian angle presented in the report, maintaining that laws and security regulations in the UAE are applied equally to everyone.
They pointed out that Pakistan’s interior ministry has also clarified that if action is taken against a Pakistani citizen, it may be related to violations of UAE laws, visa regulations or security concerns. They further argued that taking “legal action” on religious or sectarian grounds is not possible within the UAE’s legal framework.
According to analysts, nearly 1.8 million Pakistanis are currently residing in the UAE and are employed across various sectors, while the UAE remains one of Pakistan’s most significant economic and diplomatic partners. Comments circulating on social media have argued that the UAE has, for decades, provided a safe environment for millions of people belonging to different religions, nationalities and sects, where the rule of law and social harmony are given priority.
Some observers have also demanded—and even challenged—that if any individual has faced injustice, complete details should be brought forward transparently so that the facts can be thoroughly examined and independently assessed.
