ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday urged the government to maintain an ‘absolute and unwavering’ policy of non-recognition of Israel and reject any participation in normalisation initiatives such as the Abraham Accords.
In a policy statement, the party said the government must respect the sentiments of Pakistani public, which has consistently supported the Palestinian cause, and uphold Pakistan’s longstanding position of not recognising Israel until a just and comprehensive resolution was reached.
The statement came in response to the recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, who encouraged several countries, including Pakistan, to join the Abraham Accords. Trump also noted that “one or two” countries may have reasons not to participate, and that such a stance would be accepted.
The PTI urged the government to engage constructively with the United States while maintaining its principled position on Palestine and Israel. “This position is rooted in our unwavering support for Palestinian rights, steadfast adherence to international law and the deeply held sentiments of the Pakistani people. Pakistan’s policy of complete non recognition of Israel is fundamental and must remain fully intact,” it was underlined.
“We further urge the government to contribute constructively to humanitarian efforts, including the reconstruction and development of Gaza, as well as broader regional initiatives that promote prosperity, stability and mutual respect. We believe that enduring peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through a just, inclusive and sustainable solution that upholds the dignity and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” it was noted.
It was also reiterated that the PTI will continue to work with international partners and brotherly Muslim nations to advance these shared objectives, guided by the values of equity, compassion and respect for international law.
It was stated that the PTI remains firmly committed to the principles of justice, peace and stability in the Middle East. Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Imran Khan, the PTI has consistently advocated for a principled foreign policy rooted in international law, human dignity, and solidarity with oppressed peoples.
Meanwhile, the Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) on Tuesday expressed its utmost concern over US President Donald Trump’s demand to the Muslim countries to sign the Abraham Accords and asking Pakistan to take a clear stance thereon.
“Making the peace agreement conditional on this occasion is a clear proof of the Israeli agenda behind this war. The opposition alliance strongly demands that the government take an immediate and unequivocal stand without any pretense regarding any such proposal or demand,” said the TTAP spokesman Akhunzada Hussain.
In reaction to the US president statement, he insisted that this matter was a debt and trust of the blood of not only the 240 million people of Pakistan but also the entire Islamic world, especially of more than 80,000 martyrs of the oppressed Palestinians who were victims of Israeli barbarity and genocide. The so-called Abraham Accords are actually a fraud to provide legal protection to Israeli aggression and hooliganism, he contended and added that the main purpose was to create a rift in the unanimous position of the Muslim Ummah on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
He maintained that the countries that had bowed to this agreement had not only failed miserably to obtain any concrete roadmap, assurance or commitment regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state in exchange for recognising Israel but also failed to stop the greatest human tragedy of our time, the genocide of Palestinians.
Earlier, he explained that parliament and even the cabinet were kept unaware of the issue of the Peace Board and unnecessary haste was shown in that regard as well.
Regardless of the position of other countries on the Abrahamic Accords, he said, “The opposition alliance clearly states before the Pakistani people that the opposition alliance will strongly oppose any process of recognizing Israel under the guise of the Abraham Accords.”
The government, he underlined, should refrain from even thinking about making any kind of statement or resolution in this regard, being lured by temporary benefits and false praises, and the government should immediately present its clear position on this sensitive issue before the parliament, people and the world.
