LAKKI MARWAT: Police have set up additional checkpoints at the entry and exit points as part of a foolproof security plan to maintain peace and avert any untoward incidents during the Eidul Azha, an official said on Tuesday.

Talking to journalists, District Police Officer Nazir Khan said that the police would put in place comprehensive security measures to provide a peaceful environment for citizens during the Eid festival.

He said that under the security plan, special instructions had been issued to all sub-divisional police officers and station house officers to implement relevant standard operating procedures with regard to provision of security to Eid congregations, commercial and business centres, public places and sensitive installations in the respective areas of jurisdiction.

He said that the subordinate police officials had also been directed to tighten checking on entry and exit points and ensure effective and smooth traffic management on roads and main arteries. The DPO said that additional traffic wardens would be deployed to regulate traffic during Eid days.

He said that the police would perform additional patrol duties in the urban and rural areas and on highways, while policemen in civvies would be deployed in the bazaars, cattle markets, and other public places to keep an eagle eye on the movements of suspects.

He asked the people to cooperate with police and report suspicious people and their movements to the nearby police station so that quick and prompt preventive actions could be launched to avert any untoward incident.
