ISLAMABAD: Pakistan imported mobile phones worth Rs455.73 billion during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, reflecting a sharp increase in the country’s dependence on imported handsets, according to official documents.
The import bill for mobile phones recorded a 30.29 per cent increase during July 2025 to April 2026 compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. Official data showed that Pakistan imported mobile phones worth Rs349.77 billion during the same period last year, indicating a substantial rise in imports in the ongoing fiscal year.
On a year-on-year basis, mobile phone imports in April 2026 increased by 40.71 per cent, while on a month-on-month basis they rose by 18.7 per cent. According to the documents, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth Rs49.415 billion in April 2026, compared to Rs41.63 billion in March 2026.
In April 2025, the country had imported mobile phones worth Rs35.12 billion, highlighting the significant annual increase in handset imports. The latest figures indicate growing domestic demand for smartphones and mobile devices despite economic pressures and import management measures.
