ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday joined 13 other nations to condemn Somaliland for opening what they said was a purported “embassy” in occupied Jerusalem.
“This constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, and represents a direct infringement on the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem,” said the joint statement made available here by the Foreign Office.
“The ministers of foreign affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Lebanese Republic, the Republic of Türkiye, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Djibouti, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the State of Palestine, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of the Sudan and the Republic of Yemen condemn in the strongest terms the illegal and unacceptable step taken,” said the joint statement.
Somaliland, a self-declared republic in northwestern Somalia broke away in 1991 but is not recognised internationally. In December 2025, Israel became the first country to formally recognise the self-declared Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.
The foreign ministers reaffirmed their categorical rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at entrenching an illegal reality in occupied Jerusalem or conferring legitimacy on any entities or arrangements that contravene international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
“They reiterate that East Jerusalem has been occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, and that any measures intended to alter its legal and historical status are null and void and without legal effect,” said the foreign ministers.
The ministers further emphasised their full support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and their unequivocal rejection of any unilateral measures that undermine the unity of Somali territory or infringe upon its sovereignty.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Türkiye, the Republic of Indonesia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the appalling, degrading, and unacceptable actions of extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir against participants in the Gaza-bound flotilla while they were in Israeli detention, says a press release.
The ministers stressed that Ben-Gvir’s deliberate public humiliation of detainees was a disgraceful assault on human dignity and a clear violation of Israel’s obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
The ministers further deplored and condemned in the strongest terms the illegal and extremist acts of incitement and violence by Ben Gvir and the Israeli forces directed against Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The ministers warned that Ben-Gvir’s provocative actions fuel hatred and extremism, and obstruct efforts to advance a just and lasting peace on the basis of the two-state solution.
The ministers demanded accountability for Ben-Gvir’s actions and called for concrete measures to end his repeated provocations, incitement and violations, and to prevent him from further threatening and to ensure that such actions are neither tolerated nor repeated. They further stressed the imperative of protecting human rights and safeguarding the dignity and humane treatment of all detainees, and ensuring full respect for international law in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
