ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways is considering suspension of eight more passenger train services as part of a major cost-cutting plan aimed at reducing mounting financial losses caused by rising diesel prices, operational expenses and declining revenue, railway sources confirmed.

According to officials, railway management estimates that the proposed move could help reduce the department’s annual financial burden by approximately Rs5 billion to Rs6 billion.

Sources said the affected services include the Bulleh Shah Express, whose restoration had officially been announced for May 28. The train services reportedly under consideration include Bolan Mail, Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, Mohenjo Daro Express, Mehran Express, Chenab Express, Ravi Express, Marvi Express and Bulleh Shah Express.

Pakistan Railways spokesman Babar Ali said proposals regarding the suspension of certain train services were under consideration as several routes were facing serious operational and financial challenges.
