Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi on Tuesday visited a vaccination camp established for nomadic children and chaired a meeting at his office to review the ongoing polio booster campaign being conducted from May 11 to 24.
Officials said Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso and Coordinator of the Commissioner’s Polio Task Force Saud Yaqoob briefed the commissioner on the progress of the campaign.
Under the drive, children up to 10 years of age are being administered oral polio drops as well as booster doses through a painless needle-free jet injector. Officials informed the commissioner that 43 per cent of the targeted children had been vaccinated during the first six days of the campaign.
The campaign aims to vaccinate 2.192 million children up to the age of 10. Officials said environmental surveillance had detected the circulation of poliovirus in 89 union councils of Karachi.a
