ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Ms Nasheeta Maryam Mohsin, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), as Executive Director/Alternate Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank headquarters in Manila for a four-year term.

This highly anticipated and prestigious posting was awarded to Ms Nasheeta after extensive deliberations. Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar played a key role in finalising a three-member shortlist for appointment.

Among the three candidates, including Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh, who was recently appointed Federal Secretary of Petroleum Division, the prime minister selected Nasheeta Maryam Mohsin.

According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division, Ms Nasheeta, currently serving as Special Secretary in Finance Division, has been transferred and appointed as Executive Director/Alternate Executive Director at ADB under Section 10 of Civil Servants Act, 1973.

Ms Nasheeta had been serving as Special Secretary Finance and had been handling external financing matters for the past several years. In that role, she gained extensive experience dealing with the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and Asian Development Bank.

Sources said the ADB may take some time to formally notify her appointment at its headquarters. Currently, Noor Ahmed is serving as Pakistan’s Executive Director at ADB.

Although, Noor has completed his term, the government granted him an extension until the appointment of a new Executive Director/Alternate Executive Director. This position is considered highly important for Pakistan in countering efforts by India to portray approvals of projects and loans for Pakistan as controversial.

Noor Ahmed reportedly played a proactive role over the past year and successfully blocked such attempts following India’s defeat in the war against Pakistan in May 2025.

Previously, Ms Nasheeta served as Secretary of Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment Department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She has also held several other important positions during her career.
