MANSEHRA: The office-bearers of the Central Wapda Workers Union and relatives of a youngster killed by a group of assailants on Sunday blocked the Kashmir Road to demand the arrest of the killers.

“The murder of the son of our body’s regional deputy general secretary in a broad daylight is a big question mark on the performance of Mansehra police as the ratio of crimes has surged significantly in recent weeks and months,” Jamil Tanoli, chairman of the Wapda Hydropower Workers Union of Hazara Electric Supply Company, told protesters here.

Assailants had shot dead Faizan Ahmad, the son of Arshad Qureshi, son of Wapda Workers Union leader in Hazara division, on Saturday and managed to flee. The protesters placed the body on Kashmir Road near the Circuit House before funeral prayers and raised slogans in support of their demands and against the police.

“If the police fail to arrest the accused involved in the murder of one of our union leaders within the next 24 hours, we will suspend electricity supply to the entire Mansehra,” Tanoli said.He said that crimes, particularly cases of murder and attempted murder, had surged in recent weeks and months.
