LAHORE:The Punjab government has taken action against doctors and medical staff at Lady Willingdon Hospital, Lahore, by awarding exemplary punishments for endangering patients’ lives and committing a grave violation of medical ethics.

According to the issued orders, former HOD, Professor of Gynaecology, Dr Uzma Hussain, has been ‘censured’ for negligence in supervision. Former MS Dr Farah and former staff member Haseeb have had their annual increments withheld for one year. In addition, WMO Dr Iqra has had her annual increments withheld for three years. For direct involvement in the incident and breach of professional boundaries, former charge nurses Iqra and Fauzia were awarded a ‘major penalty,’ with one year of their past service forfeited.

Following the recommendations of the inquiry committee and a personal hearing, strict action has been taken against the responsible employees under the PEEDA Act 2006. The notification of punishments was issued after the approval of the CM. The incident came to light after a video went viral on social media, showing bets were being placed on patients undergoing C-section procedures.
