BANNU: Police have arrested the prime accused in the murder case of a transgender person and recovered the murder weapon, officials said on Wednesday.
They said a case was registered at Saddar Police Station on May 10, 2026. Taking immediate notice of the incident, they said, DIG Bannu Region Sajjad Khan directed DPO Bannu Yasir Afridi to form a special investigation team to trace and arrest the suspect.
The team, led by SP City Touheed Khan, DSP City Mufeez Khan and SHO Saddar Police Station Allah Nawaz Khan, they added, used modern investigative techniques and intelligence-based operations to apprehend the accused, Mastani alias Deewani of Peshawar, within a short period of time.
During initial interrogation, police officials said both the deceased and the suspect were addicted to crystal methamphetamine, locally known as “ice”. Investigators revealed that an argument erupted between the two over drug-related issues on the day of the incident, after which the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a knife, causing fatal injuries.
Police officials said the murder weapon was also recovered from the suspect’s possession, while further investigation into the case is underway.The police reiterated their commitment to taking indiscriminate action against criminal elements and maintaining law and order in the district.
