ISLAMABAD: In a major development in the country’s sports administration, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) and President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, has been assigned the additional charge of Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) with immediate effect.
The move comes following the repatriation of Muhammad Yasir Pirzada, who had been serving as DG PSB for almost 22 months on deputation basis. Pirzada has now been directed to report back to his parent department, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
According to an official notification issued by the Establishment Division, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, a BS-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service currently serving as Secretary IPC, has been entrusted with the additional responsibilities of DG PSB for a period of three months or until the appointment of a regular incumbent. The notification No PF (743)/E-5 (PAS) stated that the assignment has been made by upgrading the post, allowing Wani to continue performing his existing duties alongside overseeing the affairs of the Pakistan Sports Board.
The decision is being viewed as a significant administrative reshuffle at a time when the country’s sports structure is facing increasing pressure to deliver results and improve governance across federations and sports bodies.
A separate notification further confirmed that Muhammad Yasir Pirzada, serving under the Inter-Provincial Coordination Division on deputation, has been repatriated to the Inland Revenue Service under the Federal Board of Revenue with immediate effect and until further orders.
Wani, who already holds two key positions in national sports administration, is now expected to play a central role in steering the affairs of the PSB and its eagerly awaited deeper coordination with the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).
