ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN: Pakistan on Sunday received Iran’s response to the US proposal on the war and forwarded it to Washington, a Pakistani government official involved in the talks said. The source did not provide further details about the proposal, Reuters reported.

This comes after Iranian state media reported on Sunday that Iran had sent its response to a US proposal to begin peace talks to end the war.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday confirmed receiving Iran’s response to the US proposals. Addressing a ceremony at the Pakistan Monument to commemorate the first anniversary of ‘Marka-e-Haq’, Shehbaz said Field Marshal Asim Munir had just informed him that Iran had sent its response. “The field marshal just informed me that a response from Iran has been received. But I will not go into details here,” he said.

An Iranian official news agency also confirmed on Sunday that Iran had sent response to the US peace proposals through mediators in Pakistan for an end to the conflict.

Shehbaz said Pakistan was making all out efforts for peace in Iran and in the region and these sincere efforts were still continuing. He praised Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar for his diplomatic efforts and particularly paid tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for devoting day and nights for peace in the region.

In a closely related development, Shehbaz received a phone call from his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani during which both the leaders underscored the importance of constructive engagement by all parties to ensure the success of ongoing peace efforts in the region. They exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and reviewed the progress of ongoing peace efforts in the region, the PM Office media said in a statement.

Shehbaz expressed sincere appreciation for Qatar’s continued and steadfast support for Pakistan’s peace initiatives, reaffirming the depth of brotherly bonds between the two countries.

Shehbaz conveyed his warm regards to the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and stated that he was looking forward to the upcoming visit of the Amir to Pakistan. He said the visit of the Amir would help both sides to further strengthen and expand the enduring Pakistan-Qatar partnership.

Jamila Achakzai adds: In a related development, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam on Sunday warned the US against reckless brinkmanship and aggressive war rhetoric, saying such approaches only fueled tensions and escalation.

“A trigger-happy bravado with brinkmanship approach and ballyhoo and hullabaloo in the ivory tower of hallucinatory charlatanism bears nothing than tension and escalation,” the ambassador noted in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He added that it was not the way diplomacy worked.

The remarks accompanied a social media post by US President Donald Trump, showing him in tactical gear looking through binoculars from the deck of a military vessel as multiple explosions lit up the sea, with several warships visible amid thick smoke and fireballs.

The ambassador’s post came a few hours before Iranian media reported the dispatch of the country’s response through Pakistani mediators to the latest text proposed by the United States to end the Middle East war.
