ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Pakistan Navy for safely rescuing seven crew members from India and Indonesia during an emergency humanitarian relief operation in Arabian Sea after receiving distress call from MV Gautam. He appreciated the professionalism, prompt response and humanitarian spirit of Pakistan Navy officers and men.

The Pakistan Navy on Tuesday rescued seven crew members -- six Indians and one Indonesian, after receiving a distress call from an offshore vessel in the Arabian Sea, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.

“Pakistan Navy, demonstrating vigilance and commitment to international maritime obligations, promptly responded to a distress call from the offshore vessel MV GAUTAM in the Arabian Sea. The vessel carrying seven crew members, six Indian and one Indonesian, suffered a critical technical failure while en route from Oman to India, leaving it stranded at sea.”

Upon receiving the alert from Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai, PN initiated a swift response and deployed PMSA Ship Kashmir. The ship provided food, medical aid and technical assistance to help restore essential systems and ensure crew safety, the military’s media wing said.

“This operation underscores Pakistan Navy’s commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian responsibilities, irrespective of nationality and highlights its readiness to respond to emergencies across regional waters,” it added.
