ISLAMABAD: Flour prices have witnessed a sharp increase across the country over the past week, with the price of a 20kg bag rising by up to Rs200 in several cities, according to official data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The data shows that Karachi remains the most expensive city for flour, where a 20kg bag is being sold for as much as Rs2,500, forcing residents to bear the highest cost in the country. In contrast, Lahore offers the lowest price at around Rs1,810 per 20kg bag.
During the past week, the steepest increases were recorded in Hyderabad and Larkana, where prices rose by Rs200 per bag, followed by Sargodha (Rs190) and Sukkur (Rs160). In Multan, prices increased by Rs133.33, while Karachi and Khuzdar saw a rise of up to Rs100.
Similarly, flour prices went up by Rs90 in Quetta, Rs67 in Islamabad, Rs66 in Gujranwala, and Rs40 in Rawalpindi, reflecting a widespread upward trend in essential food costs.
According to the data, prices in other cities also remain high, with Quetta at Rs2,450, Hyderabad Rs2,440, Islamabad Rs2,373, and Peshawar Rs2,350. In Bannu and Khuzdar, the 20kg bag is priced at around Rs2,300.
Meanwhile, prices stand at Rs2,347 in Rawalpindi, Rs2,250 in Faisalabad, and Rs2,200 in Sukkur and Larkana. Gujranwala, Multan and Sialkot report prices of Rs2,133, while Bahawalpur stands at Rs2,067 and Sargodha at Rs2,000.
The continued rise in flour prices, a staple commodity, is adding to inflationary pressures and increasing the cost of living for households across the country.
