Thousands of people participated in a gathering at Nishtar Park on Sunday to pay tribute to assassinated Iranian supreme leader Ayotullah Ali Khamenei and denounce the United States and Israel for aggression against Iran.

They spoke highly of Khamenei’s achievements who governed the nation for nearly 40 years until he was assassinated in US-Israeli strikes at the beginning of the latest Middle East conflict.

A large number of religious scholars, political and religious leaders and people from across the city attended the gathering. They chanted slogans against the aggressors and held the US and Israel responsible for killing innocent civilians, including 165 primary school children, in Minab.

The organisers of the public gathering also displayed photos of the children killed in Minab on a wall. They also condemned the war crimes with display of mock bodies of the children wrapped in blood-stained shroud, broken school furniture and school bags.

The condolence reference demanded the immediate closure of the US embassy in Pakistan and expulsion of American ambassadors and staff.

The participants adopted a resolution demanding that the Muslim countries of the region establish a joint military alliance against NATO, strengthen diplomatic relations between Muslim countries, promote unity and solidarity, and immediately stop the US and Israeli aggression on the people of Palestine and Lebanon.

The leader of the opposition in Senate, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, said the US and Israeli aggression on Gaza, Lebanon and Iran should be stopped and US military bases removed from the region. He said the Pakistan-US relations should be established on equal basis.

The senator condemned the killing of protesters at the US consulate in Karachi by the US marines and expressed solidarity with the families of the deceased persons.

He announced that a nationwide public gathering would be held at the Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore.

He said the Iranians had strongly felt the moral support coming from Pakistan as children in Iran were raising the Pakistani flag and saying “Thank you Pakistan.”

Religious scholar and head of the Tehreek-e-Baidari Ummat-e-Mustafa, Allama Jawad Naqvi, saluted the youths martyred in Karachi on March 1.

He said it was important to know what the martyred Iranian supreme leader had accomplished in 37 years. He said Khamenei completed the system-building that Imam Khomeini, Shaheed Motahari and Shaheed Beheshti laid the foundation for.

Scholar from Gilgit-Baltistan Agha Rahat Hussaini held the US responsible for atrocities being committed all over the world.

Other speakers Sheikh Hassan Salahuddin, Allama Ali Murtaza, Allama Nisar Qalandari, Allama Aqeel Musa, Allama Sadiq Taqvi and Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui also paid tribute to Khamenei calling him a great leader of the Muslim Ummah.

The participants reiterated their determination to advance the mission of resistance at all levels.

The speakers said the challenges facing the Muslim Ummah could only be met with unity and a common strategy, and it was the need of the hour that the Muslim world gathered on a single platform to confront the global arrogant forces.

The event was also attended by a special delegation from the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali Reza (RA) in Mashhad, provincial minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, PTI leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi, and others.
