LAHORE : Punjab Police continued search, sweep and combing operations across the province, including Lahore to provide safe environment to citizens.
Punjab Police spokesperson said that a total of 486 combing operations were conducted across the province during the past 24 hours, during which over 15,000 individuals were questioned, while 175 suspected persons were taken into custody.
He said that during these operations, 2 Kalashnikovs, 1 rifle, 17 pistols, 1 gun and a large number of bullets were recovered from the possession of criminals.
He said that during the combing operations, 24 drug dealers were also arrested, while 18 kilograms of charas, two kilograms of heroin and 327 liters of liquor were recovered from their possession.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem has directed that search, sweep and combing operations against dangerous criminals involved in serious crimes and criminal elements should continue without interruption.
10,841 POs arrested this year
Lahore police have arrested 10,841 proclaimed offenders of A and B categories so far this year, spokesperson for Lahore Police said on Saturday.
Providing a breakdown, the spokesperson said 2,285 offenders were apprehended in Cantonment Division, 770 in Civil Lines, 2,502 in City Division, 1,522 in Sadr Division, 2,326 in Iqbal Town and 1,436 in Model Town.
Meanwhile, Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said the arrests were the result of an effective strategy and coordinated operations by the police. He added that the apprehensions would help expedite the disposal of pending cases.
The CCPO said modern technology and human intelligence were being utilized to trace proclaimed offenders. He noted that Hotel Eye, Travel Eye and tenant registration, along with mobile applications, had helped in identification and tracking of proclaimed offenders. Kamyana directed to further accelerate their operations for the arrest of B-category proclaimed offenders.
