TANK: A clash erupted between two tribes in the Upper South Waziristan after the discovery of gold deposits near Kaniguram, leaving four people seriously injured.

Sources said on Saturday that members of the Mehsud tribe’s two sub-clans, Malikshahi and Nazarkhel, confronted each other over rights to explore the newly discovered gold reserves.

Eyewitnesses said the dispute began when one group claimed ownership of the area and the rights to extract gold. The exchange of harsh words quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which knives and stones were used.

As a result, four persons sustained serious injuries. They were shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Lower Kaniguram for first aid and later referred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for further treatment.

Hospital sources said that two of the injured suffered major fractures, one with a broken leg and another with a fractured arm.
