I am a student living in Lahore and I usually go to the library every day for my studies. To make my routine better, I sold my motorcycle and bought a bicycle. Now I travel on my cycle and it helps me stay healthy and gives me regular exercise at the same time. It feels simple, peaceful and refreshing in this busy city life. However, in Lahore, there are no proper cycling lanes and cyclists are not really encouraged. Riding a bicycle here can be risky because traffic is heavy and drivers do not pay attention to cyclists. There is also very little awareness about supporting cycling as a safe and useful transport option.
We should start using bicycles for short distances because it is good for our health and also helps reduce pollution. Schools, civil society and the government should promote cycling and provide proper safety lanes so more people feel safe and motivated to ride.
