ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has issued a clarification rejecting the impression that solar net metering approvals are being made conditional on licensing requirements imposed by the Ministry of Energy, Power Division or the federal government.
A spokesperson for the Power Division said the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) licensing is governed strictly under existing regulatory frameworks and falls within the exclusive domain of the regulator. He made it clear that Distribution Companies (DISCOs) are legally bound to comply with Nepra’s regulations and cannot deviate from them under any circumstances. The spokesperson further clarified that attributing licensing requirements directly to federal government directives is incorrect and misleading. According to the Power Division, all rules related to solar net metering are defined and enforced under the Nepra regulatory regime, and all relevant entities are required to ensure full compliance.
