ISLAMABAD: To modernise national aviation infrastructure, the federal government has initiated a comprehensive “one-window” clearance strategy aimed at streamlining passenger processing through the integration of e-gates and advanced scanning technology.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi presided over a high-level consultative meeting on Wednesday, bringing together the top leadership from the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Interior to formalise a unified operational framework. The session was attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Secretary Interior Muhammad Khurram Agha, and Secretary Defence Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Ali, alongside senior officials from the Anti-Narcotics Force and the Federal Investigation Agency.
The core of the new strategy involves the transition from multiple departmental checkpoints to a singular, integrated screening point. By deploying modern machinery and establishing joint counters, the government intends to eliminate the redundant layers of security that currently contribute to terminal congestion. Minister Naqvi stressed that implementation of a unified checking system at a single point is essential to reducing wait times and ensuring a seamless experience for international and domestic travellers.
During the proceedings, officials reviewed the progress of e-gate installations, which are expected to automate border control and significantly accelerate the clearance process. Minister Naqvi reiterated the government’s commitment to providing fast and convenient travel facilities, noting that effective institutional coordination is the only viable path to managing the increasing volume of airport traffic.
The modernisation efforts also extend to airfield safety. The defence secretary confirmed that the state is in the process of importing specialised machinery designed to mitigate the risks posed by bird strikes. These measures are intended to safeguard aircraft and prevent potential accidents, further aligning Pakistan’s aviation standards with international safety protocols.
