MULTAN: The divisional administration has ordered a strict crackdown on illegal and unapproved constructions and commercial activities along Multan Avenue Road.

The Multan Avenue project, being completed by the Punjab government at a cost of billions of rupees, is being developed as a modern state-of-the-art corridor featuring carpeted roads, green belts, parking bays, and service roads. Speaking at a meeting on Tuesday, Commissioner Amir Karim Khan directed that indiscriminate action be taken against buildings violating approved plans, setback rules, and commercialization regulations. He ordered the immediate removal of illegal ramps, entrances, and encroachments on service roads. He warned that no encroachments will be tolerated on a government project completed with massive public funds.

He also directed the Multan Development Authority (MDA) and District Council to compile a complete record of all illegal constructions along Multan Avenue and ensure service roads remain fully cleared.

The commissioner further ordered the establishment of a special patrolling unit to strengthen enforcement and instructed immediate action against illegal road cuts, encroachments, and damage to government property. Additional MDA DG Attaul Haq, Director Development Multan Division Mubashirur Rehman, and other concerned officials attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Amir Karim Khan visited the under-construction road project connecting Nag Shah Flyover to Sher Shah Interchange. He directed the contractor to complete the project-worth over Rs 119 million-within two months, stressing that deadlines must be strictly followed.

The 3.05-kilometer road project is expected to significantly improve travel facilities and provide direct connectivity from the motorway to the city, officials said.

The commissioner emphasised that there would be no compromise on construction quality and instructed that proper standards must be ensured throughout the project.

He noted that the long-pending demand of citizens would soon be fulfilled, adding that the new highway would help reduce traffic congestion in Multan.

The road will feature a 24-foot-wide dual carriageway on both sides with modern carpeting. According to XEN Highways Haider Ali, the project includes 8-inch asphalt layers, tack coat application, lane marking, 2,376 cat’s eyes, and 10 signboards.
