MIAMI: A Florida man who has spent 35 years on death row for the murder of his neighbor is to be executed by lethal injection on Tuesday.

Chadwick Willacy, 58, is to be put to death at 6:00 pm (2200 GMT) at the Florida state prison in Raiford.

Willacy was sentenced to death in 1991 for the murder the previous year of a neighbor, Marlys Sather, 56, during a burglary of her home.

Seven executions have been carried out in the United States this year -- four in Florida, two in Texas and one in Oklahoma. There were 47 executions in the United States last year, the most since 2009, when 52 people were put to death.
