Medics’ enhanced role in patient safety sought

LAHORE:The Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC) Principal Prof Dr Muhammad Farooq Afzal said that the patient remains the most vital entity for all health professionals. He stressed that nursing faculty and staff must continuously enhance their professional expertise and knowledge to play an effective role in both the clinical treatment and psychological counselling of patients. He urged that health professional's positive and empathetic attitude instills a new sense of hope and the will to live in those suffering from illness.

Prof Farooq Afzal expressed these views while addressing a one-day training workshop titled ‘Patient Safety: From Awareness to Action,’ organised under the Nursing Faculty Development Programme at the College of Nursing, Lahore General Hospital (LGH).

The workshop featured Principal College of Nursing, Ms Samina Kausar, as the Patron, while Ms Tahira Shaheen, Principal DHQ Hospital Kasur and Ms Abida Tufail, Assistant Nursing Instructor from SIMS, served as facilitators. Dr Saira Zeeshan, along with nursing faculty members, nursing officers and students attended the session.

During the workshop, comprehensive briefings and practical discussions were held regarding the promotion of a culture of patient safety, timely identification of clinical risks, prevention of medical errors and the implementation of international patient safety protocols within clinical environments.
