KHAR: A poppy crop cultivated on 10 kanals of land was destroyed in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur district as part of an ongoing crackdown against narcotics cultivation, officials said on Saturday.
The operation was carried out on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Shahid Ali. Tehsildar, Nawagai, Alam Zeb, and Tehsildar, Utmankhel, Muhammad Fayaz led the action, targeting land where opium poppy had been unlawfully cultivated.
The officials reiterated that the cultivation of opium poppy is strictly prohibited and warned that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in such illegal activities.
During the operation, the authorities also issued a public awareness message, urging citizens to cooperate with the district administration in eliminating the illegal cultivation of narcotics.
According to officials, a total of 80 kanals of poppy crops have so far been destroyed across the district as part of the ongoing campaign.
