A delegation of the Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) met Sindh Law and Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar at the Sindh Assembly Building on Saturday.
The delegation was led by SCBA Senior Vice Chairman Khalid Masood Sandhu and included Secretary Malik Zahid Aslam and representatives of lawyers from all four provinces.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the welfare of the legal community, challenges faced by lawyers and promotion of legal facilities.
The SCBA delegation proposed the establishment of a modern hostel in Karachi for lawyers on the pattern of Islamabad and requested financial support from the Sindh government.
The law minister assured the delegation of the provincial government’s full cooperation to address the lawyers’ issues. He added that the matter of establishing the hostel would also be taken up with the federal government and president of Pakistan.
He added that being a lawyer himself, he was well aware of the community’s concerns. He reiterated that the Pakistan Peoples Party firmly believed in the supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law, and the Sindh government had been providing full support to all the bar associations.
On the occasion, the Sindh Bar Council requested the establishment of a hospital for the lawyers and their families and sought the government’s assistance for a project planned on its own land.
During a briefing, Sindh Law Secretary Ali Ahmed Baloch informed the meeting that the feasibility report and PC-1 for the project were being prepared, upon which the law minister directed that the work be expedited.
The meeting was also attended by Sindh Advocate General Javed Dero, Additional Advocate General Qazi Bashir, Sindh Bar Council Vice Chairman Ishtiaq Memon, Executive Committee Chairman Ayaz Tunio, former Sindh High Court Bar Association President Sarfraz Metlo and others.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the law minister presented traditional Ajrak and Sindhi caps to the delegation members as a gesture of hospitality.
